Sentencing Council for England and Wales

The Sentencing Council for England and Wales has been set up to promote greater transparency and consistency in sentencing, whilst maintaining the independence of the judiciary. The Council not only produces guidelines, but aims to inform the public’s understanding of sentencing, to help increase public confidence in the criminal justice system.
