The government published the results of its Tailored Review of the Sentencing Council on 7 February 2019.

Government conducts tailored reviews of its arm’s-length bodies to provide assurance about the ongoing need for an organisation’s functions. Reviews are conducted in line with Cabinet Office guidance to ensure that an ALB’s delivery contributes to departmental strategic priorities and to examine the body’s efficiency, effectiveness, accountability and governance arrangements in a fair and transparent way.

The review found that the current delivery model of the Sentencing Council as an NDPB is still the most appropriate, that the Council’s functions are still required, and that the Council is effective and efficient in the delivery of its responsibilities.
