The Sentencing Council has published data tables detailing recent sentencing trends for firearms offences. This is in preparation for the launch of the Council’s Firearms Offences definitive guidelines, which will be published tomorrow (Wednesday 9th December).

The data tables include statistics on volumes and sentencing outcomes for the offences covered by the definitive guidelines, and for the first time, include additional breakdowns of sentencing outcomes by the age group, sex and ethnicity of the offenders. This is part of the Council’s commitment to explore and understand potential disparities within sentencing outcomes and consider the possible effects of its guidelines on different demographic groups.
