Broadcasting of Crown Court sentencing remarks

The Sentencing Council welcomes the decision to make judges’ sentencing remarks in some Crown Court cases available for broadcast. Giving the public the opportunity to see how judges make sentencing decisions, and understand the role played by guidelines in achieving a consistent approach to sentencing, will help to improve the transparency of the court process and promote public confidence in criminal justice.
