About the tool

The Sentencing ACE Tool was originally designed and developed by Mr Justice Jeremy Johnson to assist judges in confirming that the sentence they intend to pass is correct in law. It was further refined and developed by a small working group convened by the Sentencing Council and tested by a number of judges.

The Sentencing Council wishes to place on record its thanks to Jeremy for his work developing the tool and to recognise his generosity in gifting it to the Sentencing Council to allow us to make it available to a wider audience.
